Spirituality and Experience of Mental / Emotional Distress
People with lived experience of being diagnosed with mental health problems often have some form of spiritual awareness or faith. Spiritual experience can feel very personal and vitally important for individuals and faith communities. Sharing such experience can positively impact what otherwise might be viewed more negatively whilst helping to reduce isolation and increase wellbeing. Research demonstrates that levels of hope, joy, love, peace and general satisfaction benefit through the experience of spiritual faith and practice along life's journeying. Spiritual thinking and feeling are often considered key components of personal and community growth and development. Please freely and constructively express related personal perspectives with great respect and in a spirit of humility, interest, honesty, consideration and understanding with all participants here. Discrimination on the basis of spiritual faith or experience or mental health diagnosis is offensive and callous.
