can't understand how to use this website

Jean Davison's picture

Hello Helen

I'm puzzled about how to use this website. For example, when I tried to post a comment onto a group discussion site, there was no 'submit' button. Instead, there were just two options after typing my comment, either 'Create' or 'Preview'. I wasn't bothered about previewing so I pressed 'Create' but my comment has not appeared. I tried typing the same comment in again and then pressed 'Preview' but, again, it didn't the give me a submit option, so I pressed 'Create' again. Still no comment has appeared. Is this because comments have to be monitored and approved first? But, if so, why no mention of this?

I could give other similar examples of problems. Even when I clicked on 'guidelines' which it tells you to do before posting on this forum, instead of any guidelines coming up, it took me to my profile page!

I know I'm not very computer savvy but I've had more problems trying to understand how to navigate this website than I have with any other website or forums I've been on. I'll now see if this comment will come on, but I think I might be wasting my time.

Hi Jean, I'm sorry that you

Hi Jean,

I'm sorry that you have been experiencing difficulties with the site. Could you tell me which group you tried to post a comment in? I will look into why the comment hasn't appeared and why you also couldn't download the guidelines. We don't pre-moderate comments so the error may have occurred for a different reason.

Best wishes

Helen

Hi Helen Thank you for

Hi Helen

Thank you for getting back to me. The discussion group I tried to add a topic in is the one called 'Competition for a new name for schizophrenia'. I can't understand why neither of my two attempts appeared. Should I have clicked on where it says 'switch to plain text editor'?

Best Wishes, Jean

Are profile edits subject to approval before going live or have I been experiencing a problem with the website coping with my mobile phone browser? - Although the plain text editor seems to work ok for group posts.

Hi Lionel, You should be able

Hi Lionel,

You should be able to make changes to your profile immediately - there is no approval process. If you try it again and it still doesn't work, please use the contact form or email us (openup@mind.org.uk) with the changes you'd like to make and we'll do them from this end.

Sorry about the inconvenience.

Best wishes,

Terese

I have a few issues...

Hello!

There's a few really frustrating issues with the Open Up website:

1. You can't edit blog posts once posted

2. Media and photo uploads go into the central pool of the site, rather than to a folder of your own.

3. Your profile doesn't automatically link to all of the posts you've made, and doesn't list any comments you've made on other posts

4. No comment notification, no subscribe to this debate or group

5. No auto dating of posts and comments

6. Group memberships not integrated into profile (I don't think)

Cheers,

Subscribe...

I see that there is a subscribe function, but surely when you post something to your own blog, you should be automatically subscribed to any comments/

Hi Bill,

thanks for the feedback. Do you mean when you are initially creating the account or when changing the password?
