The Capabilities Approach & a Draft Request for an Apology!
I instinctively like this "Capabilities Approach" approach, although I feel it is a little too subjective! However, I am very supportive of the conclusions ~ i.e. a public apology from Psychiatrists and services. I am afraid that the conclusions re. recovery & personalisation are all too correct!
Do take a look at the Powerpoint presentation about the "Capabilities Approach" at this webpage: http://tinyurl.com/32t7mf8

I'm contributing to the Open Up Learning Resource!
I'm in the process of writing up my contribution to the Open Up “Learning Resource” ~ I know, this is a “more to come” thing! Still, being in the middle of it, I couldn’t think of anything else to blog about!!!

So much that could be achieved!
All too often I hear a remark suggesting that us poor Service Users can't really be expected to plan and develop a project to a successful conclusion! One thing OpenUp has done is show this to be a fallacy. Just explore the pages on this site and you will find many successful projects/initiatives that have not only made a difference in individuals lives but are changing the face of experienced stigma & discrimination.

The Last Laugh, a radio play by High Peak Writers
Hi fellow-bloggers, sorry for not blogging on and keeping you all blogged up. We managed to complete the recording of the radio play at the end of June and, believe me, it took a lot of cutting and pasting, 8 hours in fact. This time it was hot in the studio and at last the coffee machine was working when we didn't need it.

rapid promise
and that, blog categories, is all I can afford to enter today, which is for me a part of yesterday. I've been working hard on living 9-5 and not burning the midnight oil, in an attempt to get up early and begin a 'normal routine' of life so that somehow this will improve matters here at home for my girls.

Workshop Opportunities in the South West
Following on from the successful 'Challenging Discrimination in Cornwall' conference and the wonderful conference in Birmingham celebrating Open Up's work across the country, I would like to offer those interested in the South West the opportunity of hosting a workshop on challenging discrimination in their own locality.
Open Up has some funds available to cover a venue, refreshments and a contribution to travel expenses with the intention of holding several workshops across the region depending on demand.

Julias the rainbow dragon
Well its official. I am a hopeless failiure at Blogging on here. Ironicly, yesterday my husband set me off blogging through wordpress instead of trying to keep up to date with a web site and I'm finding it really easy and I'm getting quite into it. Have a look if you like

Newcastle & Berwick
Good things are happening up in the north of the region. AIM/Launchpad have seen a brilliant two-page spread in the local paper and Berwick are working hard to see the OpenUp Dragon being launched this Sunday at the Berwick "Green Fair".

Dragon Heart
Well we've been a bit rubbish at blogging on here but if you use facebook search for artspace and ask to be a friend. We've video clips and pictures etc on there where its quicker and easier to up load.
Our dragon has evolved.
Our initial vision was to have him hatching out of an egg in fire.
Our test dragon was cardboard and tussue paper (Augustus the rainbow dragon with no wings)
