Time to Change
Open Up is part of Time to Change, a national programme of activity designed to change public attitudes towards mental health and improve mental wellbeing, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief. It is run by a partnership of three mental health charities: Mental Health Media, Mind and Rethink and evaluation partner the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London.

Open Up plays a key role in Time to Change’s efforts to end mental health discrimination, bringing its expertise in grassroots work, led by people with direct experience, to the programme.

The Time to Change website houses Open Up’s Your Stories project, an online collection of inspiring stories from people who have taken action against mental health discrimination.

Mind
Open Up was created and developed by the charity Mental Health Media - for more information see our project history page. In January 2009, Open Up became part of Mind following a merger between Mind and Mental Health Media.

Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. We work to create a better life for everyone with experience of mental distress by:

  • advancing the views, needs and ambitions of people with mental health problems
  • challenging discrimination and promoting inclusion
  • influencing policy through campaigning and education
  • inspiring the development of quality services which reflect expressed need and diversity
  • achieving equal rights through campaigning and education.

Through becoming part of Mind, we hope to put a powerful infrastructure behind our work giving a strong voice to people with direct experience of mental distress. More information about Mind.

Funders

Open Up’s work in England is funded by the Big Lottery Fund, through the Time to Change Campaign.

Confused? Well it certainly took us a bit of time to get our head round it! Please contact us if you’d like any further information about how we’re run.
